DR Congo : in Virunga National Park, a new family of gorillas is doing well

For a century, Virunga has been a sanctuary for one of the world’s most remarkable mountain gorilla populations, with decades of monitoring showing how their social structures change over time, in the North-Kivu province in the Eastern of the Democratic Republic of Congo ( DRC ).

This year, Virunga’s trackers observed a major development: the Kabirizi family split.

Masibo, Kabirizi’s son, formed a new family, bringing the total number of mountain gorilla families in the Park to 11.
