The new Nduye Patrol Station is operational, on Monday, February 2, the OWR team inaugurated the << new Nduye Patrol Station >> in the presence of local authorities and institutions that co-manage the Reserve.
The inauguration was attended by Mr. Jean-Baptiste Matadi Muyapandi, Administrator of the Mambasa Territory, Mr. Gabriel Zabiti, Representative of the Director General of the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN), Dr. Jean-Paul Kibambe Lubamba, Country Director of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), Mr. Luc Swanepoel, OWR Director and Head of Site, and Mr. Emmanuel Balemba, Chief of Conservation and Deputy Head of Site.
Located in Nduye, this Patrol Station will greatly facilitate the deployment of eco-guards and technical teams in the northeastern sector of the Reserve and along the strategic axis between Nduye and Mambasa.
It also provides an additional and significant anchor point for engagement with local communities.
The buildings consist of a housing block that can accommodate 24 eco-guards, an administrative building housing the operations center, two offices and cells, a kitchen and dining hall block, bathrooms with showers and toilets, and a community building housing a meeting room and an office.
The facilities are equipped with solar power, running water, a wire fence, and a stable internet connection.
This also marks an important development in the context of the OWR co-management, established between WCS and ICCN since 2019.
